Paper Recycling Conference: Less News, Less Quality?
Posted on November 10th, 2011 No commentsA sudden and steep decline in old newspapers (ONP) has caused several dilemmas, according to three executives representing large-volume recycling companies. At the opening session at the 2011 Paper Recycling Conference held in Chicago in late October, Al Metauro of Toronto-based Cascades Recovery, noted that in one major city in which Cascades operates, ONP has dropped from making up 81 percent of “blue box” post-residential material seven or eight years ago to just 38 percent today

Paper Recycling Conference: Squeezed Out

At a session at the 2011 Paper Recycling Conference, held in Chicago in late October, representatives of three other companies that consume ONP described how they are reacting to changes to their supply chain.

BAN Denies Certification to Illinois Electronics Recycler
Posted on July 14th, 2011 No commentsAccording to a press release issued by the Seattle-based Basel Action Network (BAN), the electronics recycling company Intercon Solutions , Chicago Heights, Ill., has been denied the organization’s e-Stewards certification . BAN says the denial was based on “compelling evidence” that Intercon Solutions had been engaged in exporting hazardous electronic scrap to China. In response, Intercon has rejected the accusations that it was the party shipping the hazardous material and has filed a petition in the Circuit Court of Cook County (Ill.) against CMA CGM, the U.S
