At the opening session at the 2011 Paper Recycling Conference held in Chicago in late October, Al Metauro of Toronto-based Cascades Recovery, noted that in one major city in which Cascades operates, ONP has dropped from making up 81 percent of “blue box” post-residential material seven or eight years ago to just 38 percent today

RWM: Event’s Organizers Report 13,000 in Attendance
Posted on September 29th, 2011 No commentsThe organizers of the 2011 RWM in partnership with CIWM (Chartered Institution of Wastes Management) event have proclaimed the mid-September trade show “a huge success” that was “the largest ever exhibition for the waste industry [in the United Kingdom] with 13,000 visitors and over 650 exhibitors.” During the 2011 event , show organizers also revealed plans for next year’s RWM in partnership with CIWM, which will take place at the NEC facility in Birmingham, England. USA Recycling Industries Acquiring Majority Stake in Scrap Metal Exporter
Posted on March 11th, 2011 No commentsUSA Recycling Industries Inc., based in Reading, Pa., has signed a letter of intent to acquire a 51 percent interest in Earth Metal Scrap USA Inc., a New York-based exporting firm with facilities in India and Dubai. USA Recycling, formerly known as Voyager Petroleum Inc., is a scrap metals recycler servicing the automotive service center chain store industry. In an announcement, USA Recycling says that it expects to close the deal “no later than 14 days from the date of the Letter of Intent.” As for taking a majority stake in Earth Metals, Vincent Smith, USA Recycling’s CEO, says, “The agreement with Earth Metal Scrap USA allows the company to have significant access to end users and considerable pricing advantages when negotiating within the international scrap metal trading markets.” “This arrangement provides our international consumers with direct access to a large North American scrap metal auto parts supplier with a high-quality, on-going stream of foundry-grade materials,” adds Kamal Patel, Earth Metal Scrap’s CEO.

Dutch Recycler Enters Final Stage of Acquiring Majority Share of Schrott Wetzel
Posted on March 2nd, 2011 No commentsThe Ecore Group, based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, has entered the final stage of its acquisition of a 70 percent share in Schrott-Wetzel, a scrap metal recycling company based in Mannheim, Germany. In a release, Ecore says the deal will boost its size to become one of the largest scrap metal recyclers in Europe. The Schrott Wetzel Group is the fifth largest recycling company in Germany.

Brookfield Resource Management Opens Scrap Metal Plant in India
