Republic Steel to Build EAF in Ohio
Posted on November 17th, 2011 No commentsRepublic Steel has announced plans to build an electric arc furnace and associated equipment at its steelmaking plant in Lorain, Ohio. The company will spend $85.2 million on the EAF project. According to Republic, headquartered in Canton, Ohio, the decision to build the EAF is due to strong demand for the company’s special bar quality (SBQ) steel.

Global Scrap Management Opening Aluminum Ingot Plant
Posted on August 30th, 2011 No commentsGlobal Scrap Management (GSM), Milford, Ohio, has announced plans to open an aluminum ingot production facility in Batavia, Ohio. The company says that its new division, known as Altimet, will install new melt technology that will allow the company to provide higher yields and reduce the cost of transforming scrap into aluminum ingots. GSM, founded in 2003, specializes in processing industrial aluminum machining scrap, including turnings.
