Giampaolo Group Acquires GEEP
Posted on April 25th, 2011 No commentsThe Giampaolo Group of Cos., headquartered in Brampton, Ontario, has acquired GEEP Holdings , a Barrie, Ontario-based company involved in the management end-of-life electronic equipment. According to the Giampaolo Group, it already owned a “significant share” in GEEP Holdings. GEEP reports that it processes nearly 200 million pounds of electronic scrap per year and remarkets more than 600,000 electronic products from a total of 14 locations throughout the world and seven locations in North America.

TMS International Sets Date for IPO
Posted on April 13th, 2011 No commentsTMS International, the parent company of Tube City IMS, will be issuing an initial public offering (IPO) on April 14, 2011. The company hopes to complete the initial sale of 12.5 million shares of class A common stock by April 19. The company had first scheduled, and then postponed, the IPO, in late March 2011.

Oxford Instruments Inks Distributor Deal with Verichek to Market Analyzer
Posted on April 7th, 2011 No commentsOxford Instruments Inc., Concord, Mass., has signed a distribution agreement with Verichek Technical Services (VTS), Jefferson Hills, Pa., to sell Oxford’s X-MET handheld XRF analyzer to customers requiring scrap sorting and PMI testing capability in the United States. Verichek presently offers Oxford Instruments’ OES (Optical Emission Spectroscopy) product range in the United States, and the new agreement complements its existing product portfolio and expertise. Under the agreement, in addition to selling and supporting the X-MET product, Verichek will install, train, service and calibrate instruments

Seventh Generation Debuts Detergent Bottle Made of Recycled Fiber

Severstal North America Sells Three U.S. Facilities to The Renco Group

Metals Associations Express Concern over Russia’s Intent to Limit Scrap Metal Exports
Posted on February 24th, 2011 No commentsThe Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) and the European Ferrous Recycling Federation (EFR) are expressing concern over steps the Russian government is taking that could sharply reduce the volume of scrap metal exports from Russia to European Union countries. According to a BIR release, the two associations note that it has been informed that the Russian Federal Customs Service intends to reduce the number of checkpoints for exports of scrap metal from Russia. The BIR claims that if the project were to be implemented, the free and fair access to a raw material would be jeopardized
