CCHIT launches ONC-ATCB certification program
Posted on September 21st, 2010 No commentsThe Certification Commission for Health Information Technology launched its ONC-Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB) certification program for electronic health records Monday. The program will certify that EHRs are capable of meeting the 2011/2012 criteria to support Stage 1 meaningful use as required by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and qualify eligible providers and hospitals for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Posted on October 21st, 2009 No commentsThe HIT Policy Advisory Committee’s information exchange workgroup learned Tuesday just how difficult it’s going to be for doctors to exchange electronic lab results to qualify for federal “meaningful use” bonuses. Physicians can earn a potential $44,000 under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), beginning Oct. 1, 2011, but they will have to show meaningful use of data, including the use of electronic laboratory results.

Healthcare IT chief takes on meaning of ‘meaningful’
Posted on October 1st, 2009 No commentsIn an open letter e-mailed Thursday, National Coordinator for Health Information Technology David Blumenthal discusses what the government means when it refers to the “meaningful use of electronic health records.” The term “meaningful use” has been the subject of much discussion since the federal government tied it into eligibility for incentive payments aimed at promoting the uptake of healthcare information technology.

Definition of ‘meaningful use’ to be released today

Providers need to develop a vision and strategic plan, and determine information system resources before jumping on the bandwagon, said John Parker, MD, senior vice president at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) and a partner at Martin, Blanck & Associates.
