Coca-Cola Signs Agreement to Boost PlantBottle Packaging
Posted on December 20th, 2011 No commentsLeft to right: Lee Edwards, CEO, Virent; Patrick Gruber, CEO, Gevo Inc.; Rick Frazier, vice president, commercial product supply, The Coca-Cola Co.; and Tom van Aken, CEO, Avantium The Coca-Cola Co., headquartered in Atlanta, has signed multi-million dollar partnership agreements with three biotechnology companies that the company says will accelerate the development of the its PlantBottle packaging, which is made from plant-based materials. The effort to commercialize a plastic bottle made entirely from plants builds on Coca-Cola’s introduction and roll-out of its first generation PlantBottle package, which the company says is the first recyclable PET beverage bottle made partially from plants. Since being introduced in 2009, the company has distributed more than 10 billion PlantBottle packages in 20 countries.

Novelis to Invest $32 Million to Expand Aluminum Recycling in Brazil

New MRF Opens in Tulsa
Posted on April 22nd, 2011 No commentsTulsa Recycle and Transfer (TRT), Tulsa, Okla., has opened what it is calling Tulsa’s first permitted materials recovery facility (MRF). A ceremony celebrating the plant’s opening included a visit from Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett, who declared April 18 as Tulsa Recycle and Transfer Day through the city of Tulsa.

Bottle recycler NURRC LLC Lays Off 50 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina
Posted on April 22nd, 2011 No commentsA bottle recycling facility in Spartanburg, partly owned by the Coca-Cola Co., is feeling the squeeze of a tough economy. About 50 employees of NURRC LLC at 5396 N. Blackstock Road have been laid off as Coke’s managing partner at the plant, URRC LLC, is working to restructure the plant’s operations and streamline its Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling business.
