Ferrous Prices Remain Stable in October
Posted on October 21st, 2011 No commentsStability was the most common trait for ferrous scrap prices for the seventh consecutive month, although most grades in most regions experienced a slight downward tilt in October. October spot pricing for ferrous scrap showed slight variations from September, but stayed in the same narrow range in which it has been since April 2011. By late October, some recyclers were expressing concern about declining melt rates at domestic mills, but purchase prices seemed to indicate that demand has been sufficient enough to keep the market stable.

In late September, however, recyclers began anticipating a drop in scrap prices to mirror flat-to-declining prices for finished steel and dropping prices for copper and some other traded metals

Ferrous Scrap Prices Stable in August
Posted on August 22nd, 2011 No commentsPrices paid by North American steel mills for ferrous scrap are remaining stable throughout the summer of 2011, with August spot prices within a few dollars of July’s figures. (Click here to view the numbers for the month.) According to the Raw Material Data Aggregation Service (RMDAS) of Management Science Associates (MSA), Pittsburgh, spot buyers in early and mid-August paid within $10 per ton of what they paid in July for all grades across all regions
