  • The realities of identity theft can be ugly, stressful, and downright annoying.

Posted on October 23rd, 2012 admin No comments

What happens when you are out with your friends on a Saturday evening, enjoying the brisk cool breeze of autumn and a sweet pumpkin ale at your favorite local tavern when you seek to buy a round of drinks… You hand over your credit card to the bartender only to find out that your credit card comes back as a failure to respond and you swore to yourself that you paid that bill just last week. It’s impossible! Or is it?

Every minute about 19 people fall victim to identify theft, according to TransUnion.com. Prevention is vital for the safety of you and your family, as well as your personal assets. It has become easier and easier for criminals to steal a person’s identity because of increased technological advances. Yet, not being aware of precautions of your old paperwork, could easily slip into the hands of those who prey on vulnerable people. Your identity is your life, don’t let others misrepresent you.

A common misconception with identity theft is that this would never happen to you. The problem with this way of thinking is that when you’re caught off guard, it most likely will happen to you. What is a proper precaution for identity theft? Using MicroShred’s shredding services. MicroShred, LLC is a confidential and secure shredding company serving Southern Florida. They can destroy old documents and retain peace of mind. Whether you have old documents with your social security number, name, address, or license number, MicroShred.com would be able to rid of these documents in a proper way, thus resulting in less chances of identity theft.

It takes an average victim approximately $500.00 and at least 30 hours to solve each identity theft crime, according to TransUnion.com. This brings up another valid point, which is your time! Your time is the greatest asset you own. In order to preserve as much time (and headaches) as possible, one should deter themselves from the vultures of this crime. The benefits of shredding your old paperwork outweighs the flaws. The use of MicroShred’s services can be time saving, problem solving, and offer true peace of mind.

In conclusion, the realities of identity theft can be ugly, stressful, and downright annoying. An average family doesn’t have the extra time and money to hunt down criminals of identity theft. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Shred old paperwork and documents and avoid ID thieves. It’s your life. Take control of it.

  • Biden announces community shredding events this Spring

Posted on March 23rd, 2012 admin No comments

Attorney General Beau Biden announced that his Consumer Protection Unit is sponsoring four community shredding events at locations statewide this spring to help consumers safety destroy sensitive documents and prevent identity theft. Each event will feature free on-site document shredding and staff from his office will be available to provide information and answer questions about consumer scams and frauds. Consumers may bring up to three file-sized boxes of documents; emptied boxes will be immediately returned.

“Consumers can help guard themselves against identity theft by taking some simple precautions, such as closely monitoring their bank and credit card accounts, limiting information they share online, and shredding documents that contain personal information,” said Biden.

Identity theft can occur in a variety of ways, from email and texting scams to thieves rummaging through trash for bank statements, bills, and other documents that contain consumers’ information. Shredding these documents before discarding them is an effective method of fighting theft at its source.

The Attorney General’s Office is proud to sponsor consumer shredding in support of the Inaugural Glasgow Regional Park Community Day, hosted by New County Councilman Dave Tackett and co-hosted by State Senator Bethany Hall Long, State Representative Earl Jaques, New Castle County Executive Paul Clark, and New Castle County Councilmembers Lisa Diller and Bill Powers. The day’s events feature emergency services demonstrations, health and wellness screenings, family entertainment and outdoor activities, and more. Visit www.nccde.org for more information.

  • Hard Drive Destruction is Important for Business Security

Posted on October 19th, 2011 admin No comments

There comes a time for any business interested in staying current to upgrade hardware around the office. Oftentimes this means moving data from one hard drive to another, leaving motherboards and towers rendered obsolete. One might think all that needs to be done is to simply erase all folders and files from the drive, then click on the trash icon to wipe out. Private information gone forever and the company is safe, right? Not necessarily.

    Old Computers = Security Risk

Even if you clean out the hard drives of old computers to ensure sensitive data is no longer accessible, you may not completely get the job done. To a novice user, a computer with no visible folders and files may appear clean, but an experienced programmer or hacker can work diligently to uncover fragments of data, including financial information like bank routing numbers and consumer identification, which can be used to commit theft. Just as nothing truly disappears on the Web thanks to archival sites, there is always the chance something can be unearthed. Forensic computer scientists, for example, employ such tactics to gather evidence when it appears wrongdoers are trying to cover their tracks.

    The Solution? Shredding!

How does a business ensure the security of its interests, employees, and clients? Shredding! MicroShred offers hard drive destruction services which take invalid drives and other hardware – and even disks and flash drives – and grind them until they are totally unreadable. Destruction is the best method for protection if you are concerned about sensitive data remaining where it can be found.

To learn more about adding peace of mind to your business, contact MicroShred to inquire about our hard drive shredding services. We offer sound and discreet shredding with a guarantee that your data is destroyed for good.
