Despite Backlash, Final Data Breach Rule Could Include Harm Threshold
Posted on November 17th, 2009 No commentsHHS officials might allow a proposed harm threshold to remain in the final version of a health data breach notification rule, the Huffington Post reports. Under HHS’ interim final rule, health care providers would need to notify consumers only about data breaches that potentially could harm an individual’s finances or reputation.

Last year the Identity Theft Resource Center tracked 231 human-error cases involving 21 million records.
