Waste Management Inc. (WM) has appointed Steven Preston to the position of executive vice president of finance, recycling & energy services, a new position. Preston previously was president and CEO of Oakleaf Global Holdings, which WM acquired in July.

Electronic Recyclers International (ERI) , Fresno, Calif., has announced plans to open a new electronics recycling facility at Alcoa’s former aluminum smelting plant in Badin, N.C. Alcoa purchased a minority stake in Electronic Recyclers in March 2011 According to a report in the Winston-Salem Journal , ERI would be the inaugural tenant in Badin Business Park in Badin, N.C.

Adam Weitsman, president of Upstate Shredding and Ben Weitsman & Son, Owego, N.Y., has donated $25,000 to the Owego Fire Department to help build the classroom portion of the city’s Volunteer Fire Department’s new training campus. In a release, Village Fire Chief Ed Franz says the donation is the largest the building project has received. “This donation gives us the shot in the arm needed to complete the classrooms,” Franz says.

Preventing identity theft goes beyond a person protecting his or her own information. Anyone who deals with the personal data of other people – whether customers, employees or even their own children – needs to be aware that how they handle that information can have dire consequences – both for the business and the individuals involved.
